Virtual Addiction Treatment in Massachusetts

Virtual Addiction Treatment
in Massachusetts

Massachusetts is where Pathfinder began. It's the state we know most intimately — its communities, its history with the opioid epidemic, and the specific, stubborn gaps that have kept too many people from getting the help they need and deserve.

We provide virtual addiction treatment in Massachusetts for adults who are ready to do something about their substance use and co-occurring mental health challenges, but need a program that works within the boundaries of an actual life.

Not a life that's been cleared and simplified. The real one: with a job, kids, a mortgage, a commute, and a dozen other reasons it's felt impossible to ask for help.

Pathfinder was licensed in Massachusetts first, and our commitment to this state runs deep. If you're here, we're here.

What the Numbers Tell Us — and What They Don't

Massachusetts saw a more than 36% decrease in opioid-related overdose deaths in 2024, the lowest total since 2013, and a decline felt across all races and ethnicities.

In Boston alone, opioid deaths dropped 38% compared to 2023. In Franklin County and the North Quabbin region, the drop was 62.5%.

Those numbers are the result of years of hard work by clinicians, communities, harm reduction advocates, and the individuals who fought for their own lives. That’s real change, real lives saved.

And yet fentanyl was present in nearly 92% of opioid-related overdose deaths in that same period. Xylazine, a veterinary sedative increasingly cut into the drug supply, was found in 34% of samples tested. The progress is real — and the work is not finished.

What We Offer in Massachusetts

Pathfinder's services in Massachusetts span the continuum from medical detox through ongoing outpatient support. Every level of care is delivered virtually, built for the person who needs high-quality treatment without the requirement to step away from their daily responsibilities.

 telehealth treatment approach

Virtual Ambulatory Detox

Withdrawal management at home, with active medical supervision throughout.

Your clinical team monitors your condition in real time, remains in continuous contact with you and your support person, and adjusts your care as your body responds — with the same oversight you'd receive in a clinical setting, delivered to where you already are.

Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)

Our licensed prescribers offer evidence-based MAT — including medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD) — woven directly into your care plan rather than siloed as a separate service.

The evidence behind MAT is strong, and we use it accordingly: thoughtfully, in combination with therapy and peer support, to give recovery its best possible foothold.

Individual & Group Therapy

Licensed clinicians deliver one-on-one sessions drawing from evidence-based frameworks including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Motivational Interviewing (MI).

Virtual group therapy is matched by lived experience, background, and stage of recovery — because shared context makes the work more meaningful.

Virtual Peer Coaching

A certified peer recovery coach is embedded in your care from the start — not introduced at the end as a transition resource, but present throughout as a consistent source of accountability, encouragement, and hard-won perspective.

Our coaches have been through recovery themselves. That's not a credential. That's the point.

Outpatient Services

The end of a structured program is a beginning, not a finish line. Pathfinder's outpatient services extend your clinical support as you move into sustained recovery: steady, flexible, and as long-term as you need them to be.

Always Within Reach

The hours outside of sessions are where recovery gets stress-tested. Pathfinder's care infrastructure is designed to hold you through them.

  • Secure telehealth with your full clinical team
  • Direct provider messaging — answers when you need them, not when the calendar allows
  • Shared progress tracking so your clinicians see what you see in real time
  • Daily check-ins for mood and symptoms that flag patterns before they compound
  • Optional biometric monitoring through our Smart Ring technology

Our Smart Ring and App

The Pathfinder Smart Ring tracks physiological indicators — heart rate, sleep, and others — and feeds that data directly to your care team through our app. It's an objective, continuous signal that keeps your clinicians informed between appointments and allows for proactive adjustments rather than reactive ones.

Recovery support that only exists during scheduled hours isn't enough. Ours doesn't work that way.

Why Telehealth Works in Massachusetts

Massachusetts has one of the most robust addiction treatment infrastructures in the country.

It also has some of the most persistent access problems: long waitlists at in-person facilities, geographic gaps in Western and Central Massachusetts, and a system that still requires most patients to physically show up on a schedule that works for the provider, not the patient.

Real Recovery, Built for Real Life

Virtual addiction treatment in Massachusetts removes those constraints.

The clinical evidence is consistent: telehealth-based substance use care produces outcomes equal to and, in well-documented cases, better than traditional in-person treatment — particularly when it's paired with medication, peer support, and the kind of ongoing clinical contact that doesn't evaporate between appointments.

Pathfinder takes that evidence seriously and builds from it. We are licensed with BSAS and designed specifically for Massachusetts residents who want clinically serious, barrier-free care.

Who Pathfinder Treats in Massachusetts

We work with adults 18 and older throughout Massachusetts who are dealing with:

  • Alcohol use disorder
  • Opioid use disorder (fentanyl, heroin, oxycodone, hydrocodone, methadone, and others)
  • Benzodiazepine dependence (Xanax, Klonopin, Ativan, and others)
  • Stimulant use (cocaine, amphetamines)
  • Polysubstance use
  • Co-occurring mental health conditions including anxiety, depression, PTSD, and trauma

We also serve as a free treatment navigation resource. If you're not sure where to start — or whether Pathfinder is the right fit — call us. We'll give you an honest answer and connect you with the best available option, even if that's someone else.

Your Life Is the Foundation

At Pathfinder, we've never subscribed to the idea that recovery requires separation from everything that makes your life yours. The evidence doesn't support it, and neither does our experience working with the people we serve.

Treatment that travels with you, inside your actual environment, allows you to build coping skills and sustainable routines in context. Not in a controlled setting that disappears when you leave, but in the kitchen, the car, the workplace, the places where the hard moments actually happen.

Your community. Your household. Your people. That's not what you recover from. That's what you recover for, and we think it's exactly where recovery should take place.

Insurance & Payment

Massachusetts is our home state, and our insurance expansion here is an active priority. Pathfinder currently accepts private pay and out-of-network (OON) insurance for Massachusetts residents, and we offer Medicare coverage — a meaningful differentiator for clients who need it.

We are actively pursuing additional in-network contracts and Medicaid coverage in Massachusetts, and will update our insurance information as new agreements are finalized.
Not certain what your benefits include? We provide complimentary verification — no pressure, no sales pitch, just clarity on what your options are before you make any decisions.
